What is HSK 3?

HSK 3 is the third level in the Chinese proficiency assessment system for foreigners. According to the old 6-level system, HSK 3 is classified as intermediate. When passing this exam, you will have the most basic vocabulary and grammar foundation, enough to listen, speak, read, and write Chinese at a basic level when communicating with native speakers.

How long does it take to achieve HSK 3?

Many new learners often wonder how long it takes to achieve HSK 3?
In fact, the study time depends on each individual's ability to absorb. If you study diligently for 1 - 2 hours a day, the process from HSK 2 to HSK 3 will take about 2.5 - 3 months. To achieve HSK 3, learners need to master 700 vocabulary words and 30 basic grammar structures, from which they can communicate basically.

However, with the 9-level HSK system, HSK level 3 has changed significantly. According to the new standard, learners need to know 2,245 vocabulary words and more than 210 grammar structures, a much larger amount of knowledge than the previous 6-level framework. Therefore, conquering HSK 3 in the new system will require more time and effort.
